“Soy Silvia Borba. Mi vida ha sido un viaje de traducción: primero, traduciendo idiomas y culturas como docente de inglés para futuros profesionales; hoy, traduciendo emociones y símbolos en el telar. He recorrido varias partes del mundo —desde Malasia y China hasta Estados Unidos y Europa— dando charlas y recibiendo premios, pero fue en el silencio de mi taller en Young donde encontré mi lenguaje más profundo.

En Silvia Borba Designs, fusiono la estructura del constructivismo con la nobleza de la lana Merino uruguaya. Mis ruanas y tapices, cargados de soles y peces, no son solo prendas: son historias táctiles diseñadas bajo el concepto de diseño universal, pensadas para ser sentidas por todos, sin barreras visuales.”

From Global Classrooms to the Heart of the Loom

“I am Silvia Borba. My life has been a journey of translation: first, translating languages and cultures as an English teacher educator; today, translating emotions and symbols through weaving. I have traveled to many places around the world —from Malaysia and China to the USA and Europe— delivering lectures and receiving awards, but it was in the silence of my workshop at Young City where I found my deepest language.

At Silvia Borba Designs, I merge the structure of Constructivism with the nobility of Uruguayan Merino wool. My ruanas and wall hangings, adorned with suns and fish, are more than just garments: they are tactile stories created under the concept of universal design, intended to be felt by everyone, beyond visual barriers.”
